How to use somatic psychology to heal your money relationship

written by Bari Tessler January 6, 2025

Dear friend,

I hope you enjoyed our little experiment with the “podcast” conversation about my concept of “money stories” that I sent a couple days back.

The celebration of The Art of Money Live 3-month Financial Therapy Program being open for registration continues today with another “song” on the Money Mixtape I made for you.

This second “song” on the mixtape is a clip from the first ever live 3-month version of the Art of Money program that I taught this past Fall in 2024.

It’s a brief overview of my approach to using somatic psychology tools, which forms the foundation of my unique approach to financial therapy.

And yes, this “song”/audio recording is just me teaching live in a recent class, rather than our pretend AI friends Jack and Julia talking about my ideas and concepts. You might hear from them again in the coming days, but that depends on the feedback we hear about their conversation we sent you a couple of days back.

This clip of me teaching is packed with techniques for how to use simple awareness of the sensations and emotions in your body to help unblock the things standing between you and a healthier, less stressful relationship with money.

I started this approach to financial therapy way back in 2001, when the internet was still brand spanking new, and when there was only one other person who had ever mentioned the phrase “financial therapy” on the internet.

Over the last 24 years of teaching this work to over 5,472 people, publishing two books on the topic, and doing private financial therapy sessions with hundreds of clients, I’ve seen the field of financial therapy spread from an idea that I came up with in our tiny living room in a grove of redwood trees to an approach that more and more people are using every day around the world.

This nutty, off-beat idea I had to apply psychotherapeutic approaches to our relationship with money took off and became a movement.

Even though this approach has spread around the world from very humble beginnings in our tiny cabin, the approach of using somatic psychology tools as part of the process of creating a much healthier, much less stressful relationship with money is still pretty unique to my approach.

Our body remembers everything and is the key to unlocking so many good things in our lives around money. I get called “woo woo” for keeping this somatic work as part of my methodology, but you know what? I don’t care. People can call me “woo woo” if they want. This somatic psychology stuff works so well.

These tools have helped so many people in the Art of Money program, in my mentor program, and in my private one-on-one client sessions.

That’s why the second “song” on this Money Mixtape is all about these somatic tools.

I hope you enjoy this snippet recording from one of my recent live classes!

See you in a couple days with the next “song” on the mixtape. 🙂

P.S. In case you missed my email from two days ago, registration for the next round of my 3-month, live financial therapy program, The Art of Money, is now open. The first live class happens in 10 days from now. Grab your seat on the train right here. We’ll depart the station for our money healing journey soon!
