The practical side of overcoming underearning.

written by Bari Tessler January 8, 2025

Hi Friend,

Do you ever get the feeling that you’re underearning? That the work you’re doing in the world isn’t quite bringing in the amount of money that it deserves? That sometimes you’re “over-yessing” and not making any progress, when what you really want to do is overcome underearning?

If you’re like most folks in the Art of Money community, the answers to those questions will be a emphatic YES. And believe me, I’ve had those feelings in so many different phases of my journey of working for other people (which began with an $11/hr job in the mental health field), and then through different phases of running my business over the last 24 years.

And my husband. Whooo doggie, is he ever familiar with this. Have I ever told you about the period of his life before I met him where he was living in the mountain wilderness in a tipi (even in winter), making only $7,000 a year?

That’s a story for another time, but suffice it to say, he knows how to survive on almost nothing out in the woods, and also how to slowly adjust his path to overcome underearning.

And that? Is the topic of the next recording on this Money Mixtape I’ve made for you: overcoming underearning by getting creative with your business models (if you have a business), so you can break through those pesky, limiting, frustrating money ceilings.

If you’re new here in the last few days (hello new friends!) and haven’t caught the previous two emails about this Money Mixtape series, here’s a tiny bit of context for what’s going on here: registration for the next round of my live, 3-month financial therapy course, The Art of Money, is now open.

Whenever I open up registration for the program, I love to share a collection of free teachings that are a bit deeper than my regular blog posts as a way to celebrate the registration period. This also gives you tasty samples of the kinds of things I help people with in the journey of the program.

This time around, I’ve made a virtual mixtape for you with a collection of recordings about some of my teachings within the Art of Money methodology.

So, that’s what’s going on, and this is why you’re getting more emails from me than normal. (Don’t worry, I’ll go back to my regular every two week publishing schedule after the program begins on January 16th. Pinky promise.)

For today, though, I’ve got a great snippet of a clip of me teaching in a recent live class in The Art of Money 3-month program. In this clip, I’m telling stories (which is my favorite teaching method) about the practical, external side of overcoming underearning.

There are mental and emotional internal shifts involved, and a good dose of creative brainstorming, but the focus here is on how we can shift our business models to open up new possibilities for breaking through money ceilings.

I hope you enjoy this third recording on the Money Mixtape. (And believe me, if it was possible to mail you an actual cassette tape with these recordings, I would 100% do that. But…who has cassette players anymore?)

The next round of The Art of Money 3-month financial therapy program begins next week, which is when registration will close.

You can learn all about the program and secure your seat on the train right over here.

If an “oh yes, this is the right time for this work now,” arrives in your heart, I can’t wait to see you on the train as we all embark on this next journey to a place where this whole dance with money feels way less stressful, and a whole lot easier.

With my dearest wishes,
