Since I started my Financial Therapy work in 2001, I have been cultivating close colleague connections. There are so many different facets of the financial and psychotherapy world. Finding reliable resources and referrals is very important to me, and I’m always on the lookout.
So when my go-to Consumer Debt Advocate, Gerri Detweiler was moving over to business loans after a few decades in the field, I knew I needed to find someone new for my community.
You see, I have interviewed Gerri inside my Art of Money program several times over the last decade. But, I knew I needed to update that content (since laws and solutions are always changing) and especially now that we are in the middle of a pandemic.
Here’s where Michael Bovee comes into the picture.
Michael is the Founder of the Consumer Recovery Network. He’s a family man and debt geek. Super geek, actually, but he promises to use his superpower for good because most people need help when it comes to debt and credit.
We had never met before this interview. And, I knew I liked him at the beginning of the conversation when he told me about his family, animal friends and then shared the story of how he got into the field in the first place back in 1994!
It was clear right away that he is someone who can stand up to authority, loves to research the law, genuinely wants to help people through challenging times and enjoys getting legislation changed, plus other characteristics that endeared me to him quickly.
We discussed five different options regarding how to deal with debt: from paying it off, consolidation, bankruptcy, settlement/negotiation, and asking for forbearance during this time. The biggest thing I got from this interview is that there is help out there for any and all debt situations and to please reach out to someone like this sooner than later.
This is a big reason why I am sharing this interview with my larger community and not just sharing it inside my program. I want everyone who is in the middle of a debt challenge to get the solutions, resources and support you need, especially during this time.
