The Enneagram and Money…something new on the horizon.

written by Bari Tessler February 16, 2024

Dear Friends,

Have you ever been in a conversation where you thought it would be about one thing, and then you realize, right in the middle of the conversation, that it feels like your life is about to make a major, exciting change of direction?

Well, that just happened to me last week on a Zoom call.

In this particular call, I was chatting with a fellow financial therapist about life, my Mentor Program (which she had taken last year), and a book she’d been planning on writing for some time about the Enneagram and money.

She had invited me to write the forward for the book a while back (which I was thrilled about), so I asked her how the book proposal was coming along.

A conversation about peri-menopause, menopause, and lower energy levels followed and out of nowhere, we both suddenly realized how amazing it would be if we co-wrote this book together.

Wait what?! Yes! She and I will write a book about the Enneagram and money. There, I just said it out loud.

For many years I’ve been waiting for someone to write a book like this because I love the Enneagram and would end up recommending such a book to so many people in my Art of Money community.

But many years have passed and that book hasn’t been written yet.

I guess life is saying, “Why don’t you guys just write the book you’ve always wanted to read?”

For now, we’re keeping the details of the project under wraps, but when the time comes, I’ll let you know who this mysterious financial therapist is that I’ll be writing this Enneagram and money book with.

And if you’re hungry for some Enneagram and money content right now, I’ve got a nice little sample platter for you.

A few years ago I was invited on the Typology podcast, which, as you may have guessed from the name, is all about personality typologies.

I’ve always had a love of the Enneagram personality typology because it’s helped me and so many people make sense of why we are the way we are. It’s helped so many people learn how to go about becoming better versions of themselves based on their natural talents and possible unhealthy tendencies of each type.

I was super excited for this interview and happy to talk about my own experience of being an Enneagram type 4, and even get into a bit about how I relate with money as a 4.

I was nervously hoping, however, that I wouldn’t be asked to talk about how the other 8 personality types in the Enneagram system might relate with money. I didn’t feel like I knew enough about the intricacies of the system to be able to do that, but sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.

I was asked to riff on each type and talk about their strengths and challenges around money (as if I were an Enneagram jazz musician who “riffs” all the time like this in my daily life. Right. No big deal.)

Before this interview, I had doubted the extent of my knowledge of the Enneagram. I didn’t think I knew enough about the patterns of each type in this system to be able to talk about how they might each interact with this thing we call money.

But after that interview? I realized I knew more than I thought, and I had a lot more to say than I expected.

All kinds of Ennea-riffing happened, and we had a blast talking about it all.

If you couldn’t tell already, I’m super giggly excited about this book project.

It’s time for there to be a solid book about Enneagram types and money, about how each personality type in this system tends to relate with money, and about how each type can make that relationship healthier and easier.

Once this project has some strong roots down into the ground (aka, once we have a signed book deal), I’ll share more details about it with you.

Until then, I hope you enjoy that interview about the Enneagram and money above.

Alright, I’m off to head down into the Enneagram rabbit hole with my friend, and we’ll be working on writing our way out of there in the months ahead.

Can’t wait to share more with you about all of this!

Sending dear wishes,

P.S. If you’re new around here (hello all you new Art of Money friends!), you may not know this, but this will be my third book(!) You can read about my first two books and grab copies of them for yourself, right over here.
