Dear Money Adventurer,
Money Dates are one of my favorite ways to create a money self-care practice that’s infused with ritual, creativity, and somatic tools.
The scene in the photo above is from one of my very own money dates.
Candles, rocks to hold in the palm of my hand (they’re great for grounding), chocolate, a journal, essential oil, and my Art of Money books.
To be completely honest, I used to hate everything related with money to-do’s.
I would throw away my bank statements in graduate school. I was terrified to look at my balances and just had big overwhelming emotions emerge whenever I sat down to pay my bills or tried to make any money moves.
I would literally go into my own version of a fight, flight, or freeze response.
Over the years, I’ve seen this same response come up over and over in my community when folks sit down to pay bills, send off invoices, call a new accountant or just try to take any money steps.
In my own case, after I started doing these “money date rituals” when I sat down to work through my money to-do list…everything changed for me.
It’s literally a date with money, which can look a bit like a ritual that you do to open up a supportive space to do your money work.
When I started teaching my financial therapy method in 2001, one of the first things I started teaching was this “Money Date” practice and it struck a chord with my students as well.
Instead of money to-dos feeling like sitting down with teeth grinding tension and resistance to get money tasks crossed off the list, it felt…easy, and…breezy for them. I know that sounds like a Covergirl commercial, but that’s what people were saying.
Treating money work like a date or a ritual changed everything for my students.
Wait, What’s A “Money Date”?
In a nutshell, it’s a time and space for you to connect with your practical money to-do’s in a way that brings in somatic-based mindfulness and big doses of creativity and ritual.
A money date can be done solo, as a couple, or even as a family.
It’s a bit like a “get things done” jam session meets “sipping chocolate ceremony.”
A Money Date Workshop Is Happening In Two Days!
If you’re curious about starting down the path of doing your own version of mindful money work, you’re in luck because this Sunday, in a couple of days from now, I’m teaching a Money Date Workshop.
Here are all the details:
Date: Sunday, July 23rd
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 pm Mountain Time in US
Where: Virtual over Zoom so you can join me from anywhere in the world.
In this live, two-hour community workshop, we’ll dive straight into how to design and implement your own money dates so they’re infused with deep meaning and supportive frameworks.
I’ll also open the floor for a live Q&A session to ensure you have the loving guidance you need to design your money dates with soothing somatic tools and playful personal rituals.
(And, yes, there will be a recording included if you can’t make it live with us.)
On top of this, for those of you who are interested, you can purchase the workshop along with our new money date ritual kits (think “financial therapy in a box”) together as a bundle and get a big discount off the cost of the ritual kit box that will get mailed to your doorstep. (These ritual kits are brand new and we’re still working through shipping options for other countries, which means that unfortunately, for now, the boxes are only available in the continental U.S.)
You can get all the details and sign up for the workshop, or the workshop plus the ritual kit box, right over here.
We’ve got a lovely crowd of folks already signed up for the workshop, and a bunch of them have already had their ritual kits delivered to their homes. I would love to have you join us in two days.
Hope to see you there!
Best wishes to you,
