The Non-Scary Way to Pick Bookkeeping Software (and start using it!)

written by Bari Tessler November 5, 2015

When it comes to tracking expenses, I’ve got two confessions to make:

Confession #1: I’m a reformed stickler. I used to think everyone needed to do their own books, no ifs ands or buts about it! Now I know: it can be SO empowering to hand off our bookkeeping to a pro. But I still believe tracking your finances, at least for awhile, is an invaluable education. As long as you find the right tracking system for you.

Confession #2: There is no perfect tracking system. My smartypants husband is dreaming of creating one, but until then, we have to make do with less-than-perfect systems. The good news, here: we’ve got a ton of options! The bad news: there are so many options, I see many people get stuck trying to pick a system, and give up.

Today, I want to demystify things for you, so you can quickly pick a great bookkeeping system, start tracking your finances, and get the clarity you need to make more informed money decisions. And I got my very own bookkeeper extraordinaire, Jess Salzman, to help.

When I decided to hand over my bookkeeping to a pro a few years ago, Jess was the one I called. She’s smart, full of heart, and a whiz at all things bookkeeping. That’s why I’m so proud to announce that she’s returning to be a TA (Transformational Assistant) in next year’s Art of Money (which is now open for early bird registration). And: I’m thrilled to share this rich slice from a recent conversation we had with you.

You see, Jess did a mega-ton of research about bookkeeping systems, so she could help my dear community pick the right ones for them. Watch this lighthearted, empowering clip and learn:

  • The 3 questions Jess recommends asking yourself before picking out a tracking system
  • The ultra-simple definition of “reconciling” (and why it always makes Jess think of her Grandma)
  • Jess’ top 4 apps for tracking personal finances, and how to choose the best one for you.

This little clip is so helpful, you guys! If you’ve never tracked your expenses before, or if you’re ready to track them in a new way, I know this will save you tons of time and heartache. Plus, you’ll see why I love Jess so much! She’s got a gift for making nitty-gritty financial stuff easy to understand and (gasp!) fun.

Enjoy!

p.s.  Once a year, something magical happens ‘round here: my beloved, year-long money school, The Art of Moneyopens its doors a little early for the early birds who have been waiting (with baited breath) to begin their journey to a better relationship with money. That time is now … and we’re celebrating with this Money Mochas Series: mini-jolts of sweet, delicious money clarity. In the time it’d take you to enjoy a mocha, you’ll get a rich, savory idea of practice about money. Enjoy!

The best part: each Money Mocha is heart-plucked from the private, member’s only area of my Art of Money program. So you’re getting a wee taste of the Art of Money experience!

If you love this sneak peek, consider signing up for our early bird registration for The Art of Money 2016.
